Social-Emotional Learning

Wingspan offers effective, comprehensive programs to cultivate young children’s social-emotional skills. An expanding base of research identifies social-emotional competency as a critical component for success in school and life. Children who manage their feelings and behaviors, form mutually positive relationships with others, and make responsible decisions have the necessary foundation to meet academic demands and make safe and healthy life choices.

Al’s Pals: Kids Making Healthy Choices and Al’s Caring Pals: A Social Skills Toolkit for Home Child Care Providers help children learn to identify and express feelings appropriately, care about others, manage impulses and behaviors, show kindness, brainstorm, cope in healthy ways, and problem-solve. Educators and child care providers learn strategies to help children practice and generalize these skills in a caring, cooperative environment. Through Here, Now and Down the Road…Tips for Loving Parents, parents learn how to build and reinforce these skills at home, and how to strengthen the parent-child relationship.

Our programs provide practical applications of concepts like those conveyed by the Pyramid Model and are often used as part of quality improvement efforts.
